See, No Tigers in Sight!
It’s nothing new to instill inanimate objects with magical powers. Why else do we rub a lucky rabbit’s foot during a card game or touch a St. Christopher’s medallion during a particularly hairy bit of traffic? It isn’t just superstition, it is because we have anchored touching those objects to feelings of luck and safety. We rub the rabbit’s foot and instantly feel luckier, we touch the medallion in times of anxiety and we instantly feel protected. Feel lucky, act lucky. Act lucky, be lucky. Does it have anything to do with the actual object? No. It never did, it never will. The power is in everything but the object. It’s like the old joke about a magical rock that wards off tigers.
A man walking down a street in the middle of Ohio is approached by a young boy. The boys holds up a rock and says, “Hey, Mister, would like to buy this rock? It’s magic, it will protect you because its magic will keep away dangerous tigers.”
The man chuckles and say, “This is Ohio, there aren’t any tigers around for thousands of miles!”
“See how well it works!” the boy replies.
Just like the rock in the joke, a rabbit’s foot has no inherent powers, but the habitual touching of the rabbit’s foot at key moments has anchored the feelings of luck. And let’s face it, luck is nothing but habitual success. So if you’re looking for a quick way to anchor powerfully successful feelings, go outside and find yourself a rock to keep in your pocket and perform the same type of anchoring sessions described in the previous post, Change Any Habit: Create a Ritual for Success. Or, if you prefer a more Harry Potter inspired method, go outside and find a stick that will serve as your magic wand, or write yourself an incantation and once again perform the anchoring sessions. Instill those objects or those words with your own habitual feelings of power and from that point forward you will never fail to illicit the desired result when you touch that rock or wave that wand.
Magic? No, but a damn powerful tool for creating the habit of success.
Bippity-Boppity-Amen! Or Something Like That . . .
The reason I’m convinced that so called “ magic spells” or “ceremonies” are really nothing more than anchoring, stems from the fact that the words and practices used seem fairly arbitrary to the actual desired outcome. Now, I’m sure there will be more than a few folks out there who will be more than willing to correct me, but before you tell me how wrong I am about those kinds of religions, try to keep in mind that I know absolutely nothing about witchcraft of any kind. I’m only stating what I see to be the case. But just think about how liberating and how creative it would be to be able to say words, or perform special actions that you were convinced held unwavering and undeniable power. If you say the words, if you perform the tasks, your desire will come to you every time, without fail. Isn’t that an incredibly powerful thought?
So how can you use the idea of magical incantations to create your goals? The same way children have been taught to do so for years. You pray.
Prayer is no different than any other “magical ceremony” that you could perform. Oh boy, am I going to get into trouble for this one! Prayer is nothing but a ritualized method of offering a desire to an energy that you willingly recognize as being greater than yourself. The difference is in the labels of taboo and acceptable.
How To Anchor Your Magic Spell
1.Pick the Words and Actions – You don’t have to make up words, or dance around or anything, it just has to be something that is special and sincere to you. Remember, this is you talking to a power that you are a part of. You aren’t trying to trick the Universe into giving you anything. You aren’t trying to pull one over on God. You are praying to a power that you are and have always been a part of. Embrace the sincerity of this ritual. This is no different than a child saying their prayers before bed. What they ask for might change from night to night, but it always begins with “Now I lay me down to sleep” and ends with “Amen.” The words and the rituals are your own, pick what feels right, you’ll instill the magic in it later.
2.Take the Time to Become Reverent – Reverence is under-appreciated in our society. We become reverent in churches and museum, if even then. We’ve lost the meaning of the word, but if ever there was a time to get it back it’s before you perform your new ritual. Before you say your words and state your desire, you must feel the power that they and you possess. This is when the magic happens. You must become reverent to the fact that what you are about to do shouldn’t be taken lightly. You aren’t asking for things that do not matter or will not be put to a good use. You are not being frivolous, you are asking for what you really desire. Become reverent to the truth that what you are about to do will never, and can never, fail. This is a powerful moment you are about to have. If it doesn’t feel that way, sit quietly and meditate on your desires until it does feel that way. If you don’t feel as if you are in the presence of “God,” keep trying until you do. God takes every form, pick the religion or lack thereof that works for you.
3.Practice, but Do Not Practice Uselessly – Practice your ritual, your ceremony, your prayer, as many times a day as you feel is necessary, but make sure it never becomes habitual. You must feel the same reverence every time. If you are thinking about what you should have done at work that day, or what you will do tomorrow, your mind is not in the proper place to continue this ceremony, try again later. Never do this because you feel you have to. Do it in a celebratory, humble and respectful way.
If you’d like to repeat this process with something like a lucky rabbit’s foot or some other object you will be better served by the process of anchoring I talked about in the previous post.
What Do You Want to Anchor?
The great thing about anchoring you habits is that it can be done with virtually any habit you can think of. If you want to stop smoking, you can create a new anchor. If you want to start exercising, you can create a new anchor. We like to think that human beings are fickle. Some days we just don’t feel like doing what we felt like doing yesterday. Our desires seemingly change on a whim, but it isn’t really our desires that change, it’s our stimulus. The great thing about our habits is that they are nothing but cause and effect. Link a certain cause, with a certain effect and it will never fail to manifest in any other way. So now the question isn’t “How do I create the habit of success?” but “What do I want to create?” Your anchors can be anything and everything you can think of, from standing in a certain way, to breathing in a certain way. You can anchor a rock you pick up off the ground or a stick off a tree in the back yard. The choices are endless and limited only by your own creativity and tenacity. So now you have the knowledge and you have the power to create your success. The question is, what are going to do now?

Thank-you. Your articles have/are helping me see my situation with more clarity and less emotional bias! I am (usually) very much on the same wavelength but have been having trouble with organising my thoughts lately…
Also, I agree of your interpretation of witchcraft. Of all the religions that I have (lightly) researched, witchcraft is the one that seems right to me. Respect for nature and the planet, the seasons and the cycles of the world and the Wiccan Creed of “Do what thou will so long as it harm none”.
And yes, the “spells” using candles, ribbons, herbs, smells and incantations are what I call “Affirmations with actions”!
